/www.vitter.com/ is the personal web site of Craig Vitter (i.e. me) who you can
see in one of my darker moments in the self portrait on the right hand side of this
page. I have owned this domain since 1996 if I recall correctly. In the past eleven
years I have probably redesigned this site at least a dozen times. Why? Because
I can and I love building web applications. In fact, this will be the third iteration
of the site in just the past year and half since I upgraded it to ASP.net 2.0. The
following is a list of just some of the things that you will find here if you care
to explore.
Craig's Musings
Craig's Musings is my personal blog. I have an ecclectic set of tastes but tend
to write a lot about Virginia and Prince William County politics. Recently I also
began drawing some political cartoons/caricatures which you may or may not find
amusing. In addition to politics I have been known to droll on about computer hardware,
software development, scuba diving, photography, the White Sox, and other
perfectly random things that just happen to be on my mind.
Photography
I got my first real camera when I was twelve years old (a Chinon CP7m). Up until
my senior year in college I was planning on making my living as a professional photographer.
Unfortunately it turns out that it is pretty hard to make a good living as a photographer.
Photography is still a big part of my life though and the introduction of digital
photography into the mainstream has really renewed my passion for making images.
Scuba Diving
I wanted to be a scuba diver ever since I was a little kid watching Jaques Cousteau's
TV specials. In 2000 I finally got around to getting my certification and have been
an avid diver ever since.
If I could get a high paid job puttering around tropical
reefs... well, I would be out of here.
About This Site
I consider this web site to be an ongoing project. I can't ever seem to leave well enough alone and am always looking for something to tinker with. First and foremost
I do it because I find it to be fun. But I also use it as an opportunity to play
with new techniques and technologies that I use in the course of may day job in
the software development world. This page will give you a little bit of an idea
of how I built this site if you happen to care about those kinds of details.
